Post-consumer recycled made Container Attains UN Approval – Berry Global
Berry Global’s 20-liter Optimum large jerrycan manufactured from a lowest of 35% and up to 100% post-consumer recycled (PCR) material has been given UN approval for hazardous packaging goods assimilated with water.

The accreditation gives manufacturing and chemical companies an essential benefit, offering a reliable and durable solution for the safe transportation and storage of hazardous products.
Best in class
At the same time, the incorporation of recycled material up to a very high level helps them meet their sustainability goals. Notably, the use of recycled material in the manufacture of the container does not require any increase in its weight to maintain this performance.
Transit Performance
The Optimum blends superior strength and sturdiness for satisfactory product protection with easy handling for users, and its comfortable stacking specialty maximizes space on pallets and storage.
The Optimum is accredited to UN performance Y1.9/180, which makes it suitable for formulations with a density up to 1.9 and can withstand the hydraulic pressure of 180kPa.
“The UN accreditation for our Optimum jerrycan is a vital milestone for industrial chemical packaging, with the usage of large quantities of PCR material not negotiating in any way its ability to control even the most challenging of packaging conditions,” commented Florent Souty of Berry. “Tests are now in process for all additional assimilation liquids and other jerrycan sizes as we seek to extend UN certification.”
