First-of-its-kind syringe Cap-Lock Security Label with RFID Technology

Schreiner MediPharm Equips Cap-Lock Security Label with RFID Technology

The Cap-Lock version complemented by an RFID-Label, digital prescription management, and digital first-opening suggestion is now possible.
Managing digitization forward in hospitals needs product solutions based on RFID technology.

Digital Medication Management plus First-Opening Indication

Schreiner MediPharm supports this trend with product evolution and equips its tamper-evident practice label “Cap-Lock” with an RFID inlay. The security thought for prefilled syringes consisting of a label and cap adapter also allows automatic inventory and supply chain administration and digital first-opening proof. Cap-Lock plus RFID thus allows efficient and reliable product authentication and improves formed security.

UHF RFID-Label for Syringe

Equipping syringes holding liquid medications with RFID-Labels poses a challenge. Both the receptacle material and the structure of the liquid may impair the reading of a UHF RFID-Label. Flag labels protruding from the container are usually used for this purpose. Though, they can tear off, need additional space, and have to be manually connected.

Irreversible tamper-proof in the closure

With the Cap-Lock plus RFID, the RFID chip is united into the label. The Cap-Lock is a combination of a cap adapter and a title. The adapter is placed on top of the syringe’s original closure and interlinked to equalize the syringe body’s diameter differences and closure. The label covers around the syringe body and cap adapter and, once opened, provides irreversible tamper-proof due to an integrated aperture.

Long-range reading – Syringe RFID Label

The RFID inlay is established in the upper part of the label at the level of the cap. So, it primarily sits outside the liquid-filled area and permits reliable long-range reading. Due to the RFID functionality, the digital first-opening proof is now possible in addition to the past, the purely visual first-opening sign provided by the finished label. The RFID-Label can be automatically processed as part of the primary container’s standard labeling workflow.

Live flow of Material and control the inventory

For live monitoring and administration of the logistic flow of materials and products in automated inventory and supply chain management, the syringes’ data furnished with RFID-Labels can be automatically arrested at various stations. Being a result of reading the picked and placed products, current inventory knowledge is consistently stored in a database. Additionally, sincerity, first-opening, or tampering with containers can be digitally monitored appropriating the purpose-developed RFID-Sensor-Label.
In medication management, the data—such as product name, manufacturer, batch number, and expiration date—stored on the RFID Labels are read automatically either individually or in bulk using a simple handheld or specialty readers and matched with a database. This enables the accurate tracking of inventories and provides transparency about medicines that are missing or approaching their expiration date. Thus, patients are protected against potential medication errors.
