Use Authorization (EUA) for a solution that provides easy disinfecting of N95 filtering facepiece respirators (N95 mask). The N95 masks are urgently needed by healthcare personnel due to the lack of disposable masks during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Aptar has innovated a straightforward process for disinfecting N95 mask with a small strip of Aptar’s ActivShield. The ActivShield has to place in a commonly available plastic bag approx 4L with N95 masks.
Reuse N95 mask
The controlled amount of chlorine dioxide release from the ActivShield strip and it will decontaminate the N95 mask. It takes around 3hrs. to disinfecting the mask and wear it again. The process can be used on-site such as a hospital where the mask is reused.
Aptar has presented its safety and effectiveness data to the FDA for EUA review. The company is working to provide approximately four million ActivShield strips per week. It is working on expanding its production capacity with the intent to deliver ten million per week by the end of April. “Aptar is extremely encouraged by the promising data generated so far and is eager to deliver
this technology to the front line and support the fight against the pandemic,” said John Belfance, President of Aptar CSP Technologies. If the FDA approves the EUA, then ActivShield will immediately become available for this critical use.
Chlorine dioxide is commonly using in many industries to disinfectant the working area. And many other processes, including paper manufacturing, drinking water treatment, food processing, and medical device industry. Aptar’s delivery mechanism does the disinfecting attributes of chlorine dioxide in a controlled, continued release within a contained volume.
