The European Aluminium Foil Association (EAFA) given the Alufoil Trophy award in the Product Protection division to Formpack® Dessiflex Ultra, in acknowledgment of the enhanced stability given to the Augmentin® product and the concrete impact on the millions of patients who consume it.
The new pharmaceutical packaging matches the need for a packaging solution that can absorb moisture, giving excellent moisture barrier via both side-diffusion through the blister edges.
Amcor innovate the Formpack® Dessiflex Ultra blister solution, and this specific material design was done in conjunction with GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) for their specific Augmentin® product in the Pakistan country, and also the adjacent association with packaging machine company CAM-Partena.
Augmentin® product is for the treatment of bacterial infections; initially launched in the Pakistan market.
Earlier, the product was packaged in a glass bottle with a desiccant sachet and wad sealed with an aluminum pilfer-proof closure with a liner. So, the new pack is a blister pack, using Formpack® Dessiflex Ultra, which enables patients to get each tablet which supports adherence because patients can more easily see how many tablets have been consumed, and how many left in the treatment.
The new blister pack made it possible and give a smarter option to adding a desiccant, wad or sachet to the six pills within a glass pack as it eliminates ingestion risk for the patient and decreases complexity on GSK’s production lines.
The Alufoil Trophy is given to packaging that presents products reliably and hygienically. The experts acknowledged Formpack® Dessiflex Ultra’s protective features and its accessibility for patients, corresponded with the previous industry-approved packaging solution.
