Smurfit Kappa begins an innovative punnet portfolio for fresh fruits
The portfolio highlights completely renewable, recyclable, and biodegradable punnet ideas.
Smurfit Kappa is starting its innovative punnet portfolio in Europe.
The “Safe&Green” selection is Smurfit Kappa’s paper-based, sustainable approach to plastic packaging for fresh produce and adds unique designs that are 100% renewable, recyclable, and biodegradable.
A recent study by Smurfit Kappa has decided that users prefer a punnet that compares the contents’ visibility with sustainability. Over half (58%) of respondents rated these as the necessary characteristics of fresh produce packaging.
The research also found that 75% of customers surveyed think paper-based punnets to be the sustainable preference. Also, Eurostat’s latest numbers affirm consumer’s beliefs as it validated that 83% of paper-based packaging is recycled.
As a result, producers and retailers increasingly select sustainable packaging solutions for fresh produce that reply to and address many consumer needs.

The Safe&Green punnet portfolio consists of packaging solutions that can perform directly, or customers can decide to make bespoke designs tailored to their particular requirements.
