Toxic bacteria detected in plastics at the seashore
Little scraps of plastic had bacteria that can bleach coral or affect wounds in humans
Toxic bacteria able of producing coral bleaching and injury infections in humans have been found on microplastics accumulated up from Singapore’s coastline between April and July 2018.
Aquatic scientists of the National University of Singapore – NUS discovered more than 400 various types of bacteria on 275 pieces of microplastics obtained from 3 shores – Lazarus Island, Sembawang Beach and Changi Beach.
