TetraPak has declared and begun field-testing its paper straws for beverage products in Europe.
This means Tetra Pak is the first carton packaging company to give such straws for beverage packages in the country.
“Initially, they had decided not to go for patent protection on the various technological advancements, so instead set place innovations into the public domain. They welcome all their suppliers and consumers to use the knowledge and connect forces with us to ramp up production as promptly as possible.”
It made from FSC™ certified paper and recyclable content with the rest of the package, the new paper straw will be ready initially for two variant for the small size carton packages – dairy and beverage products: Tetra Brik® Aseptic 200 Base and Tetra Brik®Aseptic 200 Base Crystal.
The company also exploring biodegradable possibilities, such as polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA), a plant-based product.
The field testing is started with limited volumes while the company expands production capacity in Lisbon, Portugal plant.
