CBO & Chief Sustainability Officer of P&G, Marc Pritchard, said that Olay would lead a new way of buying for skincare that could sensationally overcome the amount of plastic utilized in the beauty category.
At the end of this year 2019, Olay will give its best-selling Olay Regenerist Whip moisturizer with a refill pack that goes right in the jar. The brand introduced a significant amount of Olay Regenerist moisturizer jars to refillable pods, and that can save up to 5 million jars’ worth i.e., over 1,000,000 lbs of plastic.
Consumers will be ready to buy the refillable Olay Regenerist Whip unit that includes one full jar of Olay Regenerist Whip and one refill pod of moisturizer that can be put inside the jar once it’s completely used. The product will be sold and transported in a package that is made of 100% recycled paper and will not include an outer carton to reduce the use of the paperboard. Including the refill, pods are also recyclable, which is recycled Polypropylene (PP).
Olay’s breakthrough refillable product idea is one step ahead in the brand’s commitment to executing more of its packages recyclable or reusable. P&G takes the initiative with TerraCycle’s concept, where its leading brands will redesign packaging and supply chain processes.
First Olay will examine its refillable Olay Regenerist Whip moisturizer packaging concept on Olay.com in the US and UK and selected retailers online for three months (pricing info to come), then evaluate the learnings to inform future packaging. And that will help to learn further about the way consumers interact with refillable products in beauty,
