Gold awards in Sustainability and Packaging Excellence & Silver award in Technical Innovation – TC Transcontinental Packaging

In the Flexible Packaging Association 2019 Competition

TC Transcontinental Packaging has succeeded to win the Gold award for Sustainability & Packaging Excellence and the Silver prize for Technical Innovation for the Harney & Sons Master Tea Blenders pouch.
The new flexible tea pouch is one of this kind having 100% recyclable, multilayer stand-up pouch. It was designed to match the Harney & Sons’ dedication to sustainability without compromising the flavor and the freshness of the product.

It was introduced, jointly with Dow and Charter NEX Films, 100% recyclable, EVOH barrier for product protection, sealability strength, and sturdiness. Tea packaging needs a multilayer, co-extruded packaging to preserve the product’s original oils/aroma that provide tea leaves a smooth flavor and finish. EVOH delivers excellent barrier to gases and also good retention of aroma and moisture, restraining decay of the product and prolonging its shelf life. And the end of this required the sustainability factor for barrier films, is that it is not easily broken down and reused, therefore limiting its reuse and addition to positive environmental transformation. Dow’s RETAIN™ resin technology clarifies this concern by compatible the protection & thus conceding for a multilayer film to be fully recyclable and achieve sustainability goals.
