Aseptic Carton Won the WPO awards – SIG

The packaging comes with the 100% linked to the plant-based renewable packaging material has won the WPO award (international WorldStar Packaging Award) in the category of “Packaging Material and Components.”

This is one of the major awards which is held by the WPO (World Packaging Organization), the renowned awards – which have been running for nearly 50 years – are judged by a renowned jury of international WPO and also International Packaging Press Organization member.

This SIGNATURE PACK from SIG is a breakthrough in the aseptic packaging sector, encouraging the replacement of traditional plastics from fossil fuels by certified and sustainable plant-based polymers, which are used for laminating the paperboard and for securing the closure without compromising on the quality of barrier protection.

SIG carton packs hold on approx. 70-80 % paperboard from renewable wood origins. Additionally, in the SIGNATURE PACK, the polymers used for laminating the paperboard and making the closure are associated with plant-based material via a mass balance system. It indicates that for the polymers accepted in the SIGNATURE PACK, an equal amount of bio-based feedstock went into the manufacturing of the polymers.

one of the main things in the pack is to used tall oil – a by-product of paper production(selected by the jury) – as the bio-based feedstock passing into the polymers via mass balancing, as it doesn’t affect staple food crops.
